No, the Lord came to His man in the form of a still, small voice -- a voice that might have gone unnoticed if Elijah hadn't been listening.
It occurs to me that no matter what the skeptics and cynics may say, the same thing has been happening this spring. While the tornadoes and hurricanes and earthquakes and tsunamis have managed to gather front-page headlines, God's voice of Scripture has been largely unnoticed.
Still, for those who are listening, the Bible speaks in a still, small voice. Thousands of years ago the prophet Isaiah recorded God's Words. Won't you listen to those words that are still as real today as when they were first recorded?
The Lord says: ... "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior ..." (Isaiah 43:1b-3a).
No matter what may come and no matter what tragedy may happen, the Lord remains with us. He who sent His Son to seek and save the lost will not leave us comfortless. On the contrary, God has promised to preserve and strengthen us, to comfort and assist us.
That is what will happen if we hear the Lord's still, small voice.
