If God is just “one more thing” in life that competes for our attention or affections, something is really wrong. Something needs to happen in our hearts. We need to see things the way David presents them here. We need to be reminded of the stark contrast between the temporary nature of this life and the permanence of God.
When we do, we’ll value Him appropriately, and we’ll order our lives accordingly. We’ll make decisions based on His permanence, we’ll choose to invest our lives in what doesn’t fade or pass away, and we’ll do so gladly because we’ll recognize the great value in doing so.
