"Who Are You, Really?"

Psalms 139:1 O Lord, You have searched me ad known me.

Isn't it funny, at times people are wondering who you really are, when in actuality, you are wondering who you are!!  That may not happen to you, but the enemy of our soul can sure do a number on our thinking. Confusion, despair, frustration....it all plays a part in the warfare of our mind.  But you are, "....fearfully and wonderfully made..." Psalms 139:14.
Few people have an opportunity to get up close and personal in your life.  It has been said that in a person's lifetime there will only be about five friends that have that access.  Our family and those really close friends are the only ones that see the real you! Wow, so what does everyone else see?  Then it has also been said that our life is a role that is played out on the stage for onlookers.  We perform for them, then come home behind closed doors and reveal in private who we really are.  We do act differently around those we feel safe, but even then, there is still a private side that no one has access to except God.  Only God knows us better than we know ourselves.
"O Lord, You have searched me and known me" Psalms 139:1....David recognized the omniscience of God.  God knew his very action before he performed it.  David couldn't even begin a sentence for which God did not already know the end. (v.4)  Because God is omniscient, trying to count all the thoughts of God would be like trying to count the grains of sand on all the shores of the world.  The "real" David could not hide from God (vv. 17, 18).  You and I may feel the need to hide our personal side but God already knows that personal side.  We must understand just like David that there is no hiding when it comes to God our Father.  Even before David was born, God knew him in the womb and saw his potential and the life that awaited him.
If we ask God to search our heart, what would He see?  Would there be things that are so private that you wouldn't want God to know?  David also knew there was no place distant enough, no hiding place small enough, no darkness deep enough to conceal himself from God.  David begins and ends this psalms with a plea for God to search him or look into his heart and see what he is really like and then to lead him into the way of everlasting life.
You do have a right to have some things private from everyone.....but just remember there is nothing disclosed from the one who created us.  Always remember that God wants to take part in those very secret places of your heart.  Yes, there will be things that He gently speaks into your spirit that are not to be shared with anyone but Him.
Let's be honest, there is always going to be areas of our lives that we don't want anyone else to see. Perhaps, if people really saw us in our "rare form" they would not want to be our friend.  But the more time we spend with God, He will reconstruct, reestablish His ways in us so that we become more like Him.  Now, I ask you, if you acted more like God even on your "off days" wouldn't everyone still want to be right where you are?  Well of course, I could hang out with God even if He had an "off day!"   God already knows the fallible souls we are, yet His grace is still being made available for us.......
So here's the big question....."How do people see you in private and exposed?"  Is it really all that different? When God searches your heart, will he find a worthy workman?  Will you have accomplished the things that He has envisioned you to do and be?  Only you can know that...
Today, I challenge you to pray Psalms 139 just as David did.  Acknowledge that God already knows you from the inside out...Allow Him total access into your agenda's and allow Him to share in your most private thoughts.   Meet Him in the secret place........Doesn't it feel great to just be yourself with those whom you trust?  Well then, how much more than great will you feel and experience being yourself sitting in God's presence?  So, who are you, really????
I could answer that question like this........."That is for God to know and for you to find out!" (Smile).  The more you hang out with me, as I hang out with God.......it will be evident that I am a reflection of my Heavenly Father...And that is who I really am!!!
